Texas Mutual recognized for growing claims apprenticeship program

Texas Mutual employees receiving apprenticeship award

As the state’s leading provider of workers’ compensation, we’re committed to supporting our industry and our communities now and for years to come. To bridge the disparities in post-secondary education among diverse populations, we developed a claims apprenticeship program, as part of our work-based learning opportunities. Last month, we were honored to receive the 2023 Gulf Coast Region Business Apprenticeship Provider of the Year award from Houston Community College (HCC). This award is a testament to our dedication to growing the insurance talent of the future and providing important job and education opportunities to a wider range of individuals.

Texas Mutual’s Claims Apprenticeship Program first launched in 2022 at our Houston regional office. Our first-ever apprenticeship program brings in students from diverse economic and educational backgrounds for the opportunity to earn a full-time salary as a Texas Mutual employee while also attending college. Claims assistant apprentices receive on-the-job training while taking classes toward an AAS Business Management degree with tuition paid for by Texas Mutual. We welcomed two apprentices in the summer of 2022 and another two this past July.

During National Apprenticeship Week in November, we were honored to be a sponsor of HCC’s Apprenticeship Summit. One of our claims apprentices shared his meaningful experiences and career development during a panel discussion. We're proud to see our apprentices grow and are continuing to expand our program to strengthen the insurance industry and invest in a future workforce that is diverse, loyal and equipped to serve our customers across the state.

Our claims apprenticeship program is just one of the work-based learning opportunities we offer. For years, Texas Mutual has seen success with trainee programs across the company, which allows individuals to receive income while learning new skills in departments like claims and underwriting. Through our corporate citizenship strategy, we’re also working to support Texas Mutual employees in their development and expand our outreach through skills-based volunteering programs. We believe that dedicated insurance professionals are making Texas a stronger, more stable, and brighter place for all of us.
