Texas Mutual president and CEO recognized with Women in Business award

We’re proud to announce that Texas Mutual President and CEO Jeanette Ward was recently honored as a 2023 Women in Business award winner. Through this award program, the Austin Business Journal recognizes women in Central Texas for creating their own path and developing their own leadership principles. This acknowledgement reflects Jeanette’s mission-driven leadership and philanthropic spirit.

Finalists were selected by a panel of industry experts as well as Women in Business and Profiles in Power alumna. The judges considered criteria such as career advancement, company success, business leadership and community involvement. Jeanette and 11 other women leaders were recognized as award recipients at a ceremony in Austin on August 31.

Since beginning her career at Texas Mutual in 1993, Jeanette has climbed the company ranks and developed her talents across many departments. She was named president and chief executive officer earlier this year by a unanimous board vote, making her the first female president and CEO of the company. Throughout her career, she has consistently shown her commitment to helping and inspiring others in the industry and community.

Jeanette is dedicated to leading by example and is a role model to other professionals, especially women, in the insurance industry. She is passionate about the role mentorship plays and has served as a mentor for numerous women throughout her career, including through Austin Business Journal’s annual Mentoring Monday and the risk management program at St. Mary’s University.

Her expertise in the insurance industry led her to volunteer her time as the board liaison for the Insurance Industry Charitable Foundation (IICF). She also supports our community by volunteering and contributing to organizations like United Way for Greater Austin, the American Heart Association and Early Matters Greater Austin. Earlier this year, the IICF recognized Jeanette with the 2023 Southeast Philanthropic Leadership Award for her community-minded leadership.

Jeanette's leadership continues to help us grow in our mission of building a stronger, safer Texas all while inspiring others along the way. We’re proud to see her recognized for her mission-driven leadership, and know that the insurance industry and Austin community have a brighter future because of it.
