The National Safety Council recognizes Texas Mutual with driving safety award

Traffic cone

We’re pleased to announce that for the sixth consecutive year, Texas Mutual has been named as a recipient of the 2023 Our Driving Concern Texas Employer Traffic Safety awards program. The awards are presented by the National Safety Council in conjunction with the Texas Department of Transportation and recognize organizations who prove their commitment to roadway safety through measurable results. This acknowledgement reflects our dedication to promoting safe driving, educating drivers on best practices and establishing our own internal safe driving policies.

Texas Mutual is one of nine companies being awarded in the state and received recognition in the exemplary award category. Two Texas Mutual policyholders also received awards for their investment in road safety. We see it as our responsibility to help Texans make it home safely, and we’re thankful to have policyholders that share the same goal. We believe that commitment starts with our own safe driving culture and extends into sharing driving resources with others.

Internal safe driving practices

At Texas Mutual, we strive to lead by example, especially when it comes to safe driving. Our 77 fleet drivers are required to follow the company’s safe driving policy and attend defensive driving courses every two years. In addition to training, we also have in-vehicle monitoring systems in each car that track seat belt use, hard-braking and speeding. Since we first implemented in-vehicle monitoring in 2018, we’ve seen a 61% decrease in preventable accidents.

Policyholder training

Beyond our employees, Texas Mutual is committed to promoting safe driving to our policyholders. In 2022, more than 900 policyholder employees attended an in-person defensive driving class taught by one of our safety services consultants. Over 1,000 additional employees attended the course online. In addition to formal training, safety services department members frequently discuss driving safety while visiting with policyholders and often review their company’s driving safety program.

Driving resources for policyholders

Safety is a core value at Texas Mutual, and we’re proud of our employees, customers and partners that go the extra mile to spread that message. Policyholders who are interested in defensive driving courses can email safety@texasmutual.com for more information. Additionally, all policyholders have access to free safe driving resources, including a sample distracted driving policy, through our Safety and employer resource catalog. You can view more information on safe driving resources or contact our safety services support center for assistance at safety@texasmutual.com or 844-WORKSAFE (967-5723).
